Bill C-389 and Identity Politics

Well, our Canadian Parliament outdid itself again. The trans-gender community got their Valentine’s card. Thanks to our elected officials, they have succeeded in passing Bill C-389, 143-135, a trans-gender bill that will now move to the Senate for consideration. This Bill, as I stated in an earlier article, intends to add “gender identity” and “gender expression” to the Canada Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code’s hate section.

Just when I thought that saner and more reasonable minds might prevail, our corporate legislative body hit a new low. The trans-gender already know protection under the law. This Bill simply doesn’t make sense. Webster defined nonsense as “language, conduct, or an idea that is absurd or contrary to good sense.”

What were they thinking? Or, were they? Are we so fearful of “political correctness” and the power of “sub-groups” that we are willing to give up our intelligence and our good future? Some have dubbed this the “bathroom bill” because it would allow men who say they are women to enter the rightful and traditional domains of women. This Bill needed to be flushed down the toilet.

Who is standing on guard for Canada? Bad political ideas and extreme social theories seem to be running amuck down the halls of our legislative house. Who is watching over the welfare of the rest of the country while our Members of Parliament yield to special interest groups and the political pressure of the UN?
